12 ga recoil pad

Postby Adirondackjoe » Fri May 02, 2008 12:55 am

Can anyone give me a suggestion on where to find a good recoil stock pad for a 12 ga mossberg 500. I havn't had much luck, all the ones I find are cheap foam and look like crap. I live in upstate NY if that helps, I would order one online but I can't find anything that seems decent.

Limbsaver makes a good recoil pad. I just had one put on my nephews 20 gauge. He says it helps a lot. Midway USA carries them. Look them up on the web.

I agree with Kwack
I use a "slip on" recoil pad by Limb saver it work really well and can be moved from gun to gun easily. They have types for shotguns and rifles

What's that got to do with recoil pads?

Man I don't blame you for wanting a recoil pad on that gun.I have the same one and it kicks like a mule :( First time I shot it I was 10 and it flew out of my hands and knocked me on my back.I just try to not think about what is going to happen to my shoulder when i shoot it :)
If you can't dodge it Ram it.

Besides recoil another reason to add a pad is to make the rifle or shotgun a little longer, if you have a youth style weapon for a young shooter 'boy or girl' and as they get older you can add a pad to help the gun grow with them.

You can get them at Bass Pro and Cabellas. They work really well, but the one i had did wear some of the finish off the butt of the shotgun. If the recoil REALLY bothers you take it to the shop and have a good pad installed.

This is an old thread but I couldn't resist adding I have fired everything from 300 Win Mag to 12ga, 3 1/2 Magnum at deer and don't remember anything other than a "powder puff" touch on my shoulder when I pulled the trigger. Recoil pads are for the range. That's not a snub on the posters on this thread it's a fact. I'd spend $100 on a Caldwell Lead Sled or other similar product before I modified my firearm. I don't sell or otherwise recommend Caldwell Lead Sled. I simply mention the brand for purposes of clarity.
