Congrats! Nice buck, especially for a first deer. What rifle?

This fall will be my son's first deer hunt. He's 12, and has a Remington Model 7 Youth .243. I haven't decided yet whether I'll let him shoot a buck for his first deer. He may have to settle for a doe...

congrats. Really impressive. I used to shoot behind the shoulder, but now I have started shooting right in the shoulder. The deer I shot last week with a .243 100gr. core lokt I hit right in the shoulder. The bullet broke the shoulder on the entry, hit the next shoulder, broke it, and did not exit. The bullet was a lump on the other shoulder where it tried to exit. The deer ran at most 15 feet. Try it, they don't go far.
