20 or 12?

Postby youngbuck70 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:55 pm

I have a 870 12 with a bird barrel that i shoot slugs out of. I have the right choke which allows me to shot slugs. its nice but why to bulky in a tree. looked into rifled barrels and realized that a rifled barrel will cost me more then i payed for the entire gun so im gonna take the scope of my 870 and use it strictly for duck hunting and buy a new shotgun. should i go for a 20 gauge rifled barrel gun or a 12? thanks, jake

I prefer 12ga. 20ga is plenty though. More selection in 12ga, less recoil in 20ga. Some argue 20ga is more aerodynamic and accurate. With my current 12ga combo I rarely have deer travel further then a few feet. If you want to anchor the deer 12ga. Less recoil more shootability 20ga. Might depend on the gun and action you choose, semi-auto will "deaden" alot of the recoil, pumps arent as harsh on you either, single shots are whicked on your shoulder.
