243 ammo for deer and varmint

Postby rxdocal » Sat Dec 11, 2004 11:43 am

Recently purchased a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 243. Looking to use it for deer as well as varmints (coyote, fox, groundhogs etc). Anyone have any suggestions/experience using one particular ammo for both purposes? All responses are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Well, you know, getting some tail can be good at times. :D

Winchester makes a good round, try cxp1s for small game and deer. Hollow point can be good if you place your shot well or... If you can refill shells there the best in my boat. Constant, accuret, and a load more power!
IF its brown its down. Thats only of course i have my trusty 30-30...

I use Sierra 100 grain boattail spitzers and I never had a deer run more than 20 yards.

100 gr Nosler solid base loaded by Federal is an awsome deer load. For the foxes, winchester makes a 55 gr ballistic tip that is as fast or faster than a 220 swift with the same load. Somewhere around 3900.

.243 100gr. core lokt is a great round, both the deer i have shot this year didn't go far. I shot a 6pt. and he jumped once, landed about 15 feet from where he was, and I shot a doe last night and she died instantly, didn't go anywhere.

I shoot Federal Premium 100grn in a 243. The do great. Shot 4 deer with it so far. 2 bucks at 175+ yards, one dropped in its tracks, the other ran about 35 yards. Shot 2 doe at around 85 yards. One dropped in tracks and the other ran about 40 yards. She was quartering to me and i caught only one lung on her!

I am very impressed with the accuarcy of the gun and ammo!
