30-30 bullet and grain for whitetail?

Postby victoryredchevy » Sun Sep 06, 2009 7:44 am

This is one thing I'm not familiar with since I'm still a greenhorn. I have a Marlin 336w 30-30 lever, unscoped, that I will be hunting with. What would be my best bet on ammo for whitetail. Not sure what grain and should I buy something besides just run of the mill?

I like a 150gr bullet for the .30-30. It really doesnt matter the brand, but my rifle likes the Winchester Power Point(silver box).

I have a 30-30 and I use 170 grain hollow points. They aren't as flat shooting as the 150s but they have more knock down power. I shot a nice 8 at 110 yards with mine and dropped him in his tracks. Just be carefull I have heard that the new ballistic tips don't shoot well with the 30-30. One of the gun shops by me waspushing them then stopped because of it.
