30.30 scope mount issues.. good one.

Postby ohhchhittt » Tue Nov 10, 2009 7:32 pm

ok i have a old stevens 30.30. it is bolt action and ejects the shells from the top. it was my grand fathers and he past so i want to keep it in good shape as well as use it. i want to put a scope on it but it has no holes, has no screws to come out on top. and when i eject the shells they come out the top. now i was thinking of a way to mount the mounts but with this bolt action the entire top of the gun moves. so it would be like my scope moves as well. i have one spot in front of the bolt that does not move but its not very big like just enough for one mount. do they make a mount that could hover and only screw to that part. do they make a mount that i can maybe mount only on the side and just have my scope on the side of the gun. if you need more info i can try. but i would really like to scope this gun if you could help. thanks

Check out the Weaver one piece side mount for Savage 340 (several other model variations are listed also) You may have to have the reciever drilled and tapped.

A forward mounted pistol scope would work well too. "Scout rifle" is what the gunmakers call it. Handy for quick shots and general woods loafing. Good luck
