400 lb whitetail

This was sent to me today. We all know how stories can get distorted. But what I was told is it was taken in Maine. Either way it is a mammoth deer.George Jamison is the hunter.

I've seen a photo of a 363lb white tail taken in 1968 in New Brunswick , way before photoshop. The Maine state record is 355lbs shot in 1955.

Yea,the largest deer I have seen a pic of was the 355lb deer from the 50's.This deer would not look as big if the camera angle was from the front of the deer. The back of the deer is closer to the camera making it look bigger than the rest of the pic.It is a huge deer for sure and if it is really 400 we will here more about it if it is a weight record
been in the woods and on the water for 25 years, learn something new every time

Some nice deer on this site, but how are you refencing them by number? All I can find is the trophy gallery by year.

So the "400lber" was a farm raised deer? I was really hoping it was a wild deer and the guy earned it not bought it....

That is an amazing deer, I did some searching and found this on snopes.com about a 412lb deer somewhere else or maybe the names/locations have been changed. Their are pics of the 412 pounder follow the link:

http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/412deer.asp

I am not saying true or not but these are REALLY big deer. Time to get a bigger gun!!! :D There maybe more than one!

Even that deer looks to be photoshopped... Look at the angles the pictures were taken of the deer, and alos the color fluctuation on all the pictures...

Most "Urban Legend" sites represent this as Partially True. I'm not sure if that means true or false. I think there's some re-touching going on. I have knowledge of 300+ lb bucks being shot in Maine so I guess there may be bigger (than 300lb). Just looks suspicious.

OK so that looks like a $10,000.00 catalog dear right there. If its farm raised then I have no respect for the guy that harvested it. On the other hand if he either tracked it or even grew it on his own with a QDM plan then I respect that it takes a lot of time and effort to manage a property that produces dear like that.

I know nothing about this picture, but 400lb deer have been documented. Leonard Lee Rue had a picture of an over 400 lb. deer that was shot in Iowa in the 50's I think in his amazing book on deer. He said that was the largest one documented. It is possible, but, agian, I know nothing about this one. The book is "The Deer of North America" in case you interested.

Yeah it's real, but it's a farm he's hunting on.

Here is the link: http://www.wildernesswhitetails.com/hunting/Hunting/Prices.html

You could kill those deer with a knife, they feed them by hand every morning. It's NOT real hunting if there is no challenge. Amazing looking deer nevertheless.

First of all i will say this does not look like a Maine deer at all. I have seen a lot of them. However, anything is possible. Now this year the ones i have seen are after hours, on the side of the road, or behind houses. Anyway, as far as teh state record is concerned. I can tell you that a lot of locals wont allow publish of what they bag. It is highly possible for a deer to be well over this weight in Maine. We have areas of the state that have litterally no deer and lots of feed. In those areas, if one lone buck lives he could be fat. This deer looks to me as if it is of the southern breed like texas or maybe even a western deer. Anyway, deer numbers are way down in Maine. I am considering traveling elsewhere to fill the freezer this season.

I viewed a deer taken by another hunter in my spot go figure. I was a little late that day. Oh well. Anyway that deer was big bodied and well over 300. Lets put it this way. He did not haul it out by hand. Had to cut a few trees to get wheeler in to pull it out

I don't know about this one :?: The neck on the deer and the hands on the guy just don't look right and the coloring seems to be off a little. I am no expert but I am like some of ya, seems to be photoshopped to me too. If not, I apologize  that is 1 godzilla deer.

Cheers and safe hunting

Thistles deer is huge however, it is not from Maine. I live in NH and hunt Maine,NH,and Ontario. I try to stay up on Big Deer in New England. The largest Deer ever shot in Maine was the Hinkley Buck. It was shot in 1955 and was field dressed at 355lbs.
