Hello my name is Todd an I have just recently signed up and was looking for some input on the comparison of these 3 guns. I have just recently purchased a a .444 Harrison and Richardson and I was wondering how it it compares to the .35 whelen or 45-70, by range and power ,and also what is the overall best gun.

Sinceraly, Todd

Are you planning on hunting elephants?The 45/70 was a buffalo gun,that 444 is a beast.A 30/06 or 3030 would have been the better choice for deer,unless you are hunting moose.Bot overall,the 45/70.
Want my ammo?Ok,stand downrange.

Nope just good ole whitetails. The reason for purchasing the .444 was because of the blackpowder season rules in Mississippi but I was told the .444 was flatter shooting than the 45-70 and had more range which is why I chose it. The .35 Whelen is smaller than the .444 I believe but thanx for the input.

Any of the calibers you listed are great for deer. People over look big, slow moving calibers like the ones you are asking about. They tend to do less damage to meat and really put a hurting on the animals you shoot. You dont get the flat flight like you would with a .270, .30-06, .243, 7mm mag, etc. What it lacks in speed, it makes up for in energy. The .444 is a bad dude and I think you will like it.
