7 mm

Postby skeeze » Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:04 am

Hi all, I just received a 7mm rifle and wanted to get yall's thoughts on a 7mm. It is bolt action with a synthetic stock.
I've been using a 30-06 bolt action the last few years along with a 30-30 lever action. I hunt south Georgia around planted pines as well some open fields and at times some heavy wooded areas.
The only problem I foresee is that I've had some shoulder and neck problems and I keep hearing how the 7mm kicks a lot worse that the 30-06.
I would appreciate any thoughts y'all may have.

Is it the 7mm-08, 7mm WSM or 7mm Rem.. Mag??? That will help with an answer.

The 7mm rem. mag. has a thump when it is shot. Of course, it depends on the shooter whether it hurts or not. You could look into reduced laods for this caliber to make it more managable. I think Remington and Hornady make some. You could check with Winchester also.

Thanks again. The thing is I have 10 boxes of
Winchester Supreme Power Point Plus High Velocity 150 grain that the guy gave me. You think I may need to look into getting a recoil pad?
Before the heart attacks and neck surgery I never had a problem with kick.

Are those shells the guy gave you factory or hand loaded?

Sounds to me like you might want to trade that 7mm in for something you are more comfortable with. Get a gun that suits you best. You will be more sure of you shots. I shoot a .270 and love it. No flintching!

The 7mm Mag does have a tad of a kick & im one tall skinny woman so it does tend to hurt just a lil, however when i shoot a deer, i feel NOTHING. I suppose im more focused on the hunt them the pain.

Another suggestion my ladie friend had was.................. ok, don't laugh , IT REALLY worked. She did'nt have the money to spend on anything but bullets. Thats why she was hunting. The kick from her 7mm was to much for her neck & back so she bought a cheap package of sanitary napkins with the adhesive backing and smacked one on her shouler & that help alot...................LOL. Im laughing just typing this. I would try anything if it hurt so bad i could'nt take it or i could'nt afford to buy a recoil pad.

Sounds like a good idea. Do they come in a camo pattern? :D

I think about the same

I went from a 30-06 to a 7mm wsm and it has a little more kick than the 30 but nothing to write home about. I know its a accurate machine.
