What do you think of using a 762 x 39 for DEER hunting in washington ?


What do you think of using a 762 x 39 for ELK hunting in washington ?

The 7.62 should be similar in ballistics and shot to a .30-30. If you have hunted Elk with a .30-30, then I would say it can be done. The 7.62 is a .30 cal bullet.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......

I wouldn't recommend the 7.62x39 for elk, but it will do the job on a whitetail, or blacktail deer. It is similar to the 30-30 for about the first 100 yards, but looses its steam faster after that, so i would limit shots to about 150 yards with it. The harder part of the equation is finding an accurate rifle in 7.62x39. Ruger used to make a stainless/synthetic 77 chambered for it, I have a CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39, awesome gun, light, accurate, mini mauser type action, low recoil, I never used it on deer though.
