Has anyone here ever used standard US factory ammo in 7mm mauser (7x57), or 8mm mauser (8x57) on deer? If so, how was the performance. If you have shot both, which performed better.

I bought a 7x57 mauser at a auction 5 years ago(still in its original form). The rifle shot real well, so I had it drilled and tapped for a scope, bolt turned down and a diffrent safety put on.
I never used factory ammo for deer, but I shot it for the brass. If you ever reload shells for your 7x57, try this load.
Fed 210 LR primer
42gr. of IMR 4320
140 gr. Sierria Pro Hunter
2724 FPS
This load works for me  I shot a big doe in the vitals with it and it didn't go anywhere.

The 7mm mauser is a grand old round. It has done it all. I would not be wrong in saying that this round has taken more game than any other round out there, including the 30-06. The problem with factory loads is that there are many old rifles out there that can not with stand high pressures, so factory loads will always be tamed down somewhat. If you reload for this calibur you can have a ball with it.
