Advice for GR Thompson WMA????

Postby jackallenleesburg » Fri Nov 19, 2010 10:51 am

Going to GR Thompson WMA for the first time tomorrow. Anyone ever hunt there? I hear its heavily hunted and people tend to stay near the lake. So Im gonna go way back in the woods and find a spot to sit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Never hunted there but ive hunted some other areas that were heavily hunted and open to the public. Check out the land on google earth. Look for food/water sources other than the lake. A low area or draw that is possibly out of the way from all the other hunters. Although the lower pressure areas are going to hold deer even if there is no food if it is hunted enough. They simply feed at night. Maybe some bottlenecks that lead to crops i the local area....just some ideas that i look for when hunting a new spot like you are.

Go in from the back. That comes in at the top of the ridge line. There are some openings there. Scout around these oprns and follow deer trails down into the thick stuff. This is where you will find deer. This time of the year they only come into the openings at night.
