African Horns- Question

Tips, tricks and techniques for preserving that trophy

African Horns- Question

Postby Wildwzl » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:29 pm

I just received my trophies back from my hunting trip to South Africa last year. I didnt have anything mounted in order to save money but I did have the skulls bleached.
The animals skulls/horns I brought back include Gemsbok,Wildebeest,Waterbuck,Impala,Red Hartebeest and bushbuck.
Question is, whats the best method for restoring some of the luster back on the horns?
The process/dipping left the horns looking rather dry and lackluster.
Should I just use something like Neatsfoot or linseed oil?
I dont want to use the wrong product and mess up.
Thanks.

OK I will get something together over the weekend.
Not sure what forum to put it in.
I think it would be cool if you added an International or Africa forum to the forums list.

Do you know if the horns were removed and the pedicals cleaned? If you had a professional do the job, I am sure they were.Wipe the horns clean and free of dust and either wipe them down with furniture polish or Spray the horns with Satin Top Coat.
