Alabama White Oak Mast Timing - Swamp White Oak/ Swamp Chest

Postby JeffHoskins » Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:05 pm

I live in central Alabama and we have property in Bullock county. Does anyone know when White Oaks drop? Specifically the "Swamp White Oak" also called the "Swamp Chestnut" or "Cow Oak" because cows eat them. They grow in bottoms where it floods sometimes. They have massive acorns that are low in tannins that the deer crave. When do they drop? I know they drop early. I bow hunt and have a grove of Swamp White Oaks and I see them loaded with growing acorns. We found caps from last year scattered on the ground as big as silver dollars. The grown acorns are the size of small apples. I know this will be a productive site but when do the White Oaks drop? Our bow season starts October 15th so Im hoping they drop then! Thanks any one.
