Am I the only one that does this when shooting a bow?

I notice I am way more accurate shooting when it's not a bulleye target. I seem to be more accurate when I am shooting at an actual object than a target with circles. I found this to be interesting. Anyone else notice this?

when i first started shooting the bow 20 years ago i was the same way now it doesn't make a difference. I don't know if it's a mental thing or the fact that i have been shooting 5 arrows a day year round pretty much for the last 10 or 12 years.

I do the same thing alot of the time. I have 2 block targets and 2 deer targets. I seem to get tighter groups when shooting my deer targets. It kinda feels like the pressure is off.

Whether I'm shooting at targets or deer I always try to pick a spot to hit. It may be a tuft of hair or a tiny spot on the target. It helps you concentrate on keeping the pin on that one tiny spot versus keeping it on the whole target it self. Aim small, miss small.

Its a difficult thing to explain, and maybe it can't. However, when shooting on leagues where bullseye shooting is the norm, many new to this type of shooting get what is called..."Target panic." There is a sinister form of mental block that rears its ugly head and intimidates the archer and breaks his concentration.Over time this can be overcome by relaxed and determined focus. On deer targets, there is no such bullseye to intimidate, the archer relaxes and groups tighten up in the broader kill zone. What is called "Buck fever" is a form of this target panic, its a form of performance anxiety that is overcome and eliminated by experience and by putting less pressure on onesself.

Years ago when shooting competition I learned from other archers to be happy with the six inch group..no pressure, soon I relaxed and 4 inch groups started happening, soon 3 inch groups and occasional X ring hits popped up.

yes, what you are experiencing is quite common.

I've been bow hunting for about 28 years and I've always shot targets to stay in shape but I like stump shooting to get ready for hunting.I hunt in open marsh so I've killed a few on the way in and out of my hunting zone.I always have a used broadhead in my quiver so many times I shoot a few on the way into hunting.I live by the beach so the sand dunes makes an easy thing.I think stump shooting helps you pick YOUR yardage.I do use a rangefinder around my stand but your not always in you stand when HE walks by.WORKS FOR ME
