this last weekend i was hunting out in a new area. i ran a dragline to my tree that moringing. at about 7 i had a buck come in and at 35 yards stopped, looked at my scent stick and it seemed he looked right up my rope up to my stand. he then looked down at the scent bomb then back up the tree. i was asonished when the deer trotted off and never gave me a shot. it wasnt because i was moving i had never been so still. any ideas on if a deer could really be that educated? my cousin said the same thing happend to him last week!

The deer may or may not be educated. It all depends on the age and how much pressure has been put on him. It could be that he saw the rope and looked up at you and figured out that something wasnt right. You are in his house.

Well, maybe he has had this situation happen to him before, and thats all it takes to educate a deer. remember its their life which means a ton so they are going to be very cautious especially in a heavy hunted area. Maybe he smelled u too?
why pass up a 2.5 year old? Because next year he will be a 3.5 year old.

The deer may not have ever saw you or smelled you but that something just didn't look right to him and he decided to hit the road.

Maybe he had just came through there a day or two before and he knows it didn't look like that when he previously came through there, if that is an area he frequents he knows it like you know your living room in your own house, it would be like you coming home and seeing that the tv has been moved or that you suddenly have a new sofa.
