Attracting deer to your foodplot

Postby abomb21 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 11:33 am

I am planning on making a food plot next year and want to know what to plant or use to attract deer into in. There are alot of does around but i havent seen any bucks this year? It is in about 5 acres of wooded area on my property and theres no real food source in there now. There is a cornfield next to it now but next year the farmer will do soy beans.
Thanks

Most of the choice depends on your area, soil conditions, whats planted nearby in ag fields, etc. You need to give more details to get a good answer.

Good places to start are your local Soil Conservation (AG)office, and or your local game warden.

Yep, some food plot mixes work well up in the north and some do much better in the southern states, also some plot mixes work in swampy wet land and others need more of a moderate to dry land or land that has decent to good drainage with a good amount of sunlight so youll need a clearing in the woods for the plot.

There are several companies that make plot mixes and they will all attract and give some nutrition to deer, its important to follow the directions on prepairing the food plot before and after planting.

Also some plot mixes are annuals that need planted every year and some are perennials that can last for 4-5 seasons so that is something to consider also.
