Bag Limits

Postby KwackWacker » Mon Dec 08, 2008 4:48 pm

We have people from all over the place using this forum, just curious as to what your bag limits are in each state? How many deer do you usually put in the freezer?

Ohio 6-7 deer total
1 buck and your 7th is on a special lottery type permit for urban hunts
the other 6 you can just purchase
3 of which can be doe that are killed before december 7th--$15
3 can be either sex and from sept 29th-feb 1---$24
1 license for everything
I am not that good to fill my tags but between the liberal gun season and friends i get usually 2-3 deer on average

This is for Connecticut.

4 with the bow 2 buck max
1 state land shotgun either sex
1 state land muzzleloader either sex
2 Private land shotgun/rifle
2 with the bow in the late season shoreline zone
Some zones you are given a replacement tag for each deer shot.
Depending on where you hunt and if you have acess to private property will depend on wether or not you have a bag limit.

I live in michigan and I get a combo license every year. I can get one antlerless in counties that permit. Then One buck any size and another buck with i think three points or more on one side.

In Kansas you could conceivably get 7 deer, only one can be a buck.

First you have to buy two deer tags (one either species-either sex or buck only depending on the unit and one doe tag) to hunt in the unit of your choice (the reason for either species-either sex is in western Kansas we have a mixture of Whitetails and Mulies and even some Whitetail/Mulie crosses.

After you buy those two 'deer tags' you can then buy extra doe 'permits', western Kansas has no extra doe permits but in units in central Kansas you can get a maximum of one permit, in areas of eastern Kansas you can get up to 4 doe permits.

So you would have to hunt different units in the state but you could conceivably fill 2 tags first and then 5 permits.

Here is the max you can get in NY:

Archery - 1 doe tag, 1 either sex tag
Regular Gun - 1 buck tag, 4 doe tags (if you get left over tags after the first round of doe tags)
Muzzle loader - tags for archery transfer to ML

Total max tags - 7 per year

Missouri is very fortunate,,,There is unlimited doe tags in the immediate Kansas City and St. Louis zones. You still only get 1 buck (STATEWIDE). certain other areas you are now limited to 1 doe. Then there are the farm tags that are broken down by the acreage you have.

Ontario is so big, there are about 90 different wildlife managment zones, and the hunting regulations vary for each one.

Some zones have restricted hunter numbers, so there is chance you can't get any tag for the gun season. I think most hunters in Ontario harvest one deer on average, but you can get up to seven tags in some zones if you hunt with varous methods (riffle/shotgun, ML or bow).

In Vermont you are allowed 3 deer per year. Various seasons.

2 deer in archery season 1 buck, 1 doe, or 2 does.

1 buck with three or more points in gun season.

1 buck with three or more points in ML season and sometimes doe with permit.

Max per hunter is 3 deer per year with whatever combination of seasons you get them in.

Georgia's limit is 12 deer a year.

10 Anterless and two bucks, one of which must have four points 1 inch long or longer on one side.
