Ballistically Speaking

Postby Bone_Collector » Thu Sep 16, 2010 5:39 pm

I have a slug barrel for my 12 gauge that i bought after last season. I have not had a chance to sight it in and sabots are expensive. I bought 4 boxes and I am going this Saturday to sight it in.

I bought the 3" sabot slugs, because they were out of 2 3/4" and i wanted to get it done before bow season. I have 6 or 7 regular 3" slugs (Rem Sluggers not sabots) which i was told you can shoot the regular slugs out of the rifled barrel, but not the sabots out of the regular barrel. Could i use the regular slugs to get on target then switch over to the sabots or will this not work?

Also I asked this before, but if i sight the barrel (cantilever) and want to switch the regular barrel back on will it cause me to be off?

Usually no you have to sight in with the same exact loads your hunting with. Rarely will a gun shoot the different type's of slugs to the same point of impact. Sabots are for rifled barrels, Foster/full bore etc style can be used in either and I shoot 2 3/4 Brenneke KO slugs in my 12 ga thats a Winchester 1300 fully rifled barrel. How far are your anticipated shots? I used sabot's for a few years and wasnt impressed but your luck/experience's may be different? Good Luck
