Bear Showdown RTS Package issue

Postby jschulz » Mon Jul 20, 2009 8:43 am

Hello, I am very new to bow hunting and archery. So new in fact that I just bought and shot a bow for the first time wednesday of last week. I bought a Bear Showdown RTS package. It is not a very expensive package or fancy but it works for me right now until I get more seasoned. I have shot this bow about 10 times and the nylon string that is wrapped around the bow string is coming unwravled. The knock loop is tied to this string so I siezed usage of it becuase I didn't want to cause any problems with that either because if the string unwravels all of the way the knock loop will be extremely loose. Is there anything that a pro shop can do about this? I really don't want to send the bow back to Bear for this minor of an issue, I was thinking maybe they can just take the string off and retie the knock loop or something. I hope that I explained this good enough to understand.

Try waxing the string but...I would take it into a shop. You DO NOT want a string to break in your face.
If the shop is reliable they will wax it for free. If not you could always put a better string on it. I have had good luck with the Vapor Trail strings and they are not that expensive. The string is the most important part of your bow. IMO

Brow Tine was on the money, you need to get some bow string wax at a bow shop or order it online and keep your string waxed all the time, even in the off season if you take a few weeks off from shooting put some wax on the string and then work it into the string with your fingertips before storing it away and rewax when you start shooting it again and every week or two if shooting a lot of arrows.

Part of the reason your string looks frayed and the nock string may seem to be getting loose is likely because the strings are dried out from no wax and may actually be shrinking in diameter depending on what material the string is made of.

As he said, since you've been shooting a dry string its best to take the bow to a shop and let them look at the bow string and see what they say about its condition, maybe they will tighten the nock string for you if needed.
