Your best bet would be to look online for video camera reviews. You can get a camera to record your hunts from $200 to $10,000!!!

go to axialvideo.com. He is/was much into target shooting, rifling and hunting for tons of years. Competing nationally. He sells cameras that we use for racing motorcycle and I know he mounted some on rifles and what not.

send him an email
it is better to keep your mouth shut and appear to be stupid than open it and remove all doubts

Like stated before, video cameras for hunting can get very expensive. I don't know how much he is willing to spend, but if he wants to get quality action and outdoor footage then he should expect to spend at least $1000. It is possible to get decent footage from a $500 video camera if he is just looking to preserve some memories.

A good spot to start is this website: http://www.bestforhunting.com/?page_id=514 They list the best video cameras for hunting and have it broke down by different price ranges. I took the advice and am happy with my purchase. I spent $1000 and get good quality footage from a canon vixia. I forget the exact model, but there is a newer model and the website above has updated and changed things around since then.

Good Luck!

A little late on the reply, but I second the sony handicams. Look at the hard drive versions, no more tape issues!!

I use one for deer, elk, antelop, and lion hunting. People that watch the video are impressed with the clarity.

Good luck.
