Bone Marrow Donation for a Sick Hunter

Postby Buzzard05 » Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:23 am

Got the word yesterday evening that a very close friend and longtime hunting partner was just diagnosed with leukemia. They aren't sure which type of leukemia he has yet, nor do they have a treatment plan mapped out.

This bad news comes on the heels of a friend of my wife's, little girl fighting a horrific battle with AML leukemia during the past 9 months. You can read her story at:

http://www.caringbridge.org/

search on "sydneydavies" to get to her mother's blog.

It is a sad feeling watching the fight this little girl has had and now knowing that a very close friend may well be in for the same type of struggle and really having nothing you can do to help.

The only thing I can really do to help is spread the word about bone marrow donation. I would encourage each of you to visit this site:

http://www.marrow.org

and consider becoming a bone marrow donor. The screening is painless and free (they will ask for a donation during the final step, but you don't have to donate unless you want to, they still send the kit for free.) They send you a kit with cotton swabs that you use to swab your cheeks. You send it back in their prepaid envelope and in a few months you could be saving somebody's life.

Even if you are not interested, please consider sharing that link on your Facebook or Twitter pages so that any of your friends who may be interested in helping out have an easy way to do so. I don't know that we will find a match for my hunting buddy or this little girl, but you can be assured we will help somebody out.

Thanks
