im looking at getting a bore sighter for my savage .243, what would you guys recommend for around 50 bucks?

prefer one that goes into the chamber and turns on when you close the bolt.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a bore sight? They are only good for getting the gun to hit paper at 50 yards or so. When it comes to actually sighting the gun in you have to take it to the range and burn some powder.

Spend your $50 bucks on ammo and take your rifle to a local gunsmith or outdoors store. Most of them won't charge more than a few bucks to bore sight it for you. Some places do it for free. Just a suggestion.

A friend of mine bought the laser that goes in the end of your bore at Wal-Mart for around $30 or so. Fits the majority of calibers. I used it on my Ruger .44 carbine and had it hitting paper with the first round at 100yds.

Just so you know, we inserted it in the end of my barrel and aimed it into his shed(its dark so you can see the laser) that is about 25yds away. If you can get a ballistics calculator you will see that in most rifles, the bullets path is the same around the 25yd mark as it is at 100yds. My .270's bullet hits the same spot at 27yds as it does at 100.

Below is one that does a pretty good job and its free. Just enter the ballistic info that the program asks for and it will spit out a graph showing bullet trajectory.
