Hey Doc ---- after all these years, I still prefer a sight pin set up. My current bow has a peep and 2 pins (fiber optic so they light up really well) with one set for 15 yds, the other for 30. My bow is fast enough that I could probably get by with only 1 pin, but I'm just more comfortable with 2. My best friend shoots a pendulum sight and swears by it. I'd try a couple of things and just go with whatever you're most comfortable with. Overall I think most of the sight packages on the market today are pretty good. :)

I use the Impact Archery Hammer Head 3 pin Site with light. Each pin has a spool containing 2 ft. of fiber optic. It has great low light performance. I have them on both Hoyt bows :D

welcome to the forum, and thanks for the info. both of you. i have a 4 pin sight that came with the bow. i was going to have 10, 20, 30, 40 but my 10 and 20 were almost on top of each other. so im gonna make them both a 15. havent made it to the 30 and 40 yet. its hard to balance sighting in bow, new rifle, fishing, varmint/squirrel/rabbit hunting, work, and every other hobby i have. not that work is a hobby, but i had to put it in there.

I prefer Trophy Ridge sights, No tools needed, all wing nuts, and they work fine on all my Martin bows.

bow sights

Postby bambeklr » Thu Mar 10, 2005 9:33 am

Hey there fellas I shoot a hha 3 pin fiber optic sight. There is over 6 feet of fiber optic wrapped around my sight hood. This sight is awsome. I switched to it this year and I love it. I was using a pendilum sight by savage. The one with the tritium sight that glows in the dark at all times. It is actually radio active material capsuled and put in a bow sight. This new sight I have is almost just as bright. All three pins ar nice. My #1 pin is so bright that if you take it out around noon it will actually have a hallo around it. The pins are, #1-0-35yds #2-35-45yds #3-45-55yds. It took some getting use to but now I have a laser range finder and I have no worrys. Good luck!!

Sorry to bring back an old post but I am also going to be looking this year for a new set up.
So far I am leaning toward the copper john, I like the dead nuts hunter five pin.
I also like what trophy ridge has to offer. I wish they would come down a bit in price.
I am definitely going with the fiber optic no matter which I decide to go with.

Have you decided on anything yet, docHolladay ?

been looking at Trophy Ridge. they seem to have some nice sights and like Digger said its all wing nuts. i think they might get hung if not careful but i think there are draw backs to everything you put on a bow. i also like the adjustment lines on it. my sight now doesnt have anything and i have to take an allen wrench loosen, adjust(tap it up or down), shoot, re-adjust. gets old after while because i have no reference lines to go off of so i know where i was at. i'd like to have a sight with micro adjustment knobs on it. that would help alot once you got it close to center, then you could fine tune it until it was dead on. meant to say trophy ridge is pricey but i think you get what you pay for.

No doubt they are a great choice. I have held one in my hands and you can tell they are quality made. Perhaps even like you said, worth the price you pay.
What I do like about them is the harmonic dampener set up.

I have a micro adjusting check-it set up now. It is nice to give a click or two and be on the spot. Being all I really want to gain is the brightness of fiber optics. I may just buy a pin for it and stay another year.

The wife would like that decision. LOL

Check these guys out, sometimes they can be a bit lower in price on things. I noticed the prices on the website are cheaper then the 2004 catalog. www.archeryexperts.com I`m not sure if the 2005 are out yet but the catalogs are free.
The guy that owns the store is Tom Redmond a real good bow hunter not to mention a Minnesotan.
As a comparison so you can check with other carriers.
Say you wanted to go with the Matrix V-Drive Guide Series, 5 Pin, .019 pin size, and a camouflage choice of 6 types. That will cost $149.00

I started looking at options in other site manufacturers because of what we have been discussing. I may have found one I am leaning toward as a new prospect.
What a name…
The trophy taker slide adjust round top pin sight. (anybody know anything ??)
For the micro adjusting model, costing an extra $24.00 on top of the $95.99 puts it at $119.99.
One particular option that I liked is the over sized level. This will keep the pin as the main focus and the level as the peripheral view. For me I think this may add to less full draw fatigue.
An option that I am still looking for is the top pin size at .019 and the rest .029. Or at least be able to order it that way. For me at twenty yards and closer, the target spot is covered by to much glow.
Keep looking I guess.

bow sights

You guys should check out the HHA fiber optic three pin. It has around 6 1/2 feet of fiber optic. I can see to shoot around 9:00 am in the summer. Thats when I practice my low light shooting because our season starts september 1st. The sight actually is so bright that the #1 pin(green) gets a halo around it in the direct sunlight around noon. It set me back around 90 bucks. They also have a single pin version, the ol 5000 and ol 5500 one has 3ft of fiber optic and the other has 5 feet. These actually come with a sun shade type device to cover the fiber optic howewver much you want so they dont get to bright.
