Bowtech Admiral Vs. PSE Omen.

Postby silvergts1998 » Tue Jul 07, 2009 3:31 pm

Can't decide which one I will use for hunting this year. I have the admiral and love it, but at 330 grains and at about 65lbs it shoots 288 fps. I got a PSE Omen on order and will have it in about a week in my hands. I will have to report back. I am adding the PSE to my collection.

I would hunt with the first one I grab on the way out the door.

/\ /\ /\ Agreed. I'd take a long bow if I am an accurate shot with it. Too much emphasis on gear and not enough on practice with what you have is what makes hunting too expensive.

I like to collect gear and have different bows. I am real good with the Admiral right now and love it. Very accurate. I can group arrows easily at 35 yards in about a 1.5-2" group. In fact I shoot only about 3 arrows at a time in fear of ruining them. I cranked down my admiral to 71lbs and it made a difference in how the arrow shoots now. So the shooting has gotten better and faster than before.

Now as far as the longer bow is it more accurate? I was told the Omen is the same as the PSE X-Force GX but a shorter bow. Now the IBO on the PSE X-Force GX is about 20 fps slower than the Omen.

What you think? Cost is about the same. I had a PSE Thunderbolt X and it was a small bow, but didn't like it as much as my Admiral.

Speed comes from the cam and limb design and is not always better to be faster. I think back to the old days before carbon arrows and super fast parrallel limb bows and wonder how those heavy aluminum arrows ever got it done... answer: kenetic energy. Speed can actually take away kenetic energy. I personally shot with the same bow for almost 6 years until I decided to upgrade it to my current bow (back in 2005) an 06 bowtech tribute. It was the top of the line back then but now in comparison with its new counterparts some would call it out of date and mediocre. I still kill animals every year with a mediocre bow??? How can that be? Its all about comfort with your gear and confidence that when you release that arrow, you know exactly how, where, and when its going to fly. As much as you enjoy getting new equipment all the time, you may be hurting yourself a bit as well. Find a bow you love to shoot, stick with it, and resist the temptation to rush out and buy the newest and greatest every season.... new doesn't necessarily mean better. Just my $.02

Yes I understand your point on getting used to a bow and staying with it. I agree...."but" I am a gadget geek and love the newest thing that comes out at times. I decided against the Omen because the cam comes with fixed length only and not adjustable. So I have a 28" draw and if I ever wanted to sell the Omen I would have to find someone with a 28" draw who would want to buy it. So I went with the PSE X-Force GX which is about the same bow but has the multiple draw lengths if I should ever want to sell it. Where the omen picks up the speed is less parts on the cam which makes it lighter and it has a 70% let off rather than the 80% let off that the PSE X-Force GX has. So when you release the arrow on the Omen, it moves faster. For me the PSE X-Force GX made more sense. with a 340 grain arrow the omen shot the arrow at 317 fps average at 70lbs which is 26fps faster than my Admiral. So I ended up buying the PSE X-Force GX pro series bow to add on my Bowtech admiral set up. Fun! fun! fun!

Today I got my PSE X-force GX (IBO 152 FPS) and brought it home. Very pleased!

Here's a few pictures for comparison. The PSE is actually a little bit quieter than the Bowtech Admiral. The PSE is much, much faster. But I still love the Admiral!

Both bows are nice and considered to be in the Pro-series. Bowtech Admiral is very smooth. The PSE is smooth but not as smooth as the Bowtech. The one thing I noticed about the PSE is that at almost full draw, the let off doesn't happen until you get about 97% of the way back. I guess this is how this bow picks up great speeds. I am learning more about it as I go.
