Brenneke K.O. 12 gauge Rifled Slugs

Postby Adirondackjoe » Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:05 am

Has anyone used these slugs? they are 2 3/4 1 oz slugs. I have a chance to get 250 of them for a decent price and was wondering if anyone has shot them or has any experience with them. I would be shooting them out of a 12 gauge mossberg 500 with a fully rifled barrel. I like to target practice with slugs as well and $19 for 5 sabot slugs is expensive fun so I will save the sabots for hunting and fire off the rifled slugs for fun.

I tried them in my Mossberg 500 20 Ga with the 24 inch rifled barrel and they were all over the place.

They are a good slug but I wouldnt shoot them to much out of a rifled barrel. They could cause alot of lead fowling of your barrel. The lead will eventually fill the rifleing up. I have buddys that shoot them out of there smooth bore guns and they are the heat out to about 125 yards!!!!!! Just my opinion!!!!

What do you suggest I shoot out of the rifled barrel that won't foul it up? Is there a way to get the lead out of the rifling if I did shoot a lot of them?

If you use a good cleaning solvent you should be ok. Just make sure clean the shotgun after each session.

Hoppes should. If you are getting a new bottle, take a look at some of the other solvents. I have seen some that claim to be better than Hoppes. I am a Hoppes fan and still havent tried any of the others.

They are a good slug for smooth bore shotguns like Bambeklr said. Was up camping one weekend and my brother shot a wild dog from about 100+ yards right through the broiler room. Ran about 100 yards and dropped over dead with one more slug to put it down for good. I was using the 2-3/4 breneke also.

Its all I shoot. Mines a Winchester 1300 fully rifled barrel. I killed 26 deer straight with them before I missed a tough shot. 4 out of 5 now. I have alot of knockdown non spine kills. I swear by them and recommend them to everyone that has a gun that shoots them good. I just killed the biggest doe of my hunting career this evening at 4:30 with one K.O. If your gun shoots them straight they are hard to beat. I buy 2-4 box's every two weeks just in case they quit making them. I shoot at least 50-sometimes upwards of a 100 throughout the year as they arent a PAIN to shoot either to the wallet or shoulder. Ive taken deer out beyond 100 yards with them and coyotes a little beyond that. Just have to shoot them and see how they group. I have seen a few guns that wont shoot them good, very few. I just switched my Mossberg 500 20 ga fully rifled cantilever from Brenneke Short Field Magnums to the Brenneke 20ga K.O.'s. Saves $2 box and that means more shooting and more familiarity with the gun and load= more success. As you can tell Im a Brenneke fan. They've stood the test of time. Good luck no matter what you choose/shoot. P.S. At least 95%(10+ deer a year average) of the shotgun deer Ive taken have been with some kind of Brenneke. Ive tried alot of the fly by night slugs and sabots etc. Ive always went back to Brenneke.
