Broadhead tuning?

Postby silvergts1998 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 11:08 am

With hunting season creeping upon us, I was wondering if I should be shooting with broad-heads than field points when practicing? I hear about this broad head tuning and not sure what to make of it. I hate to just use broad heads for target practice since it will tear my targets up real quick.

So is there a broad head that flies like a field point out there? I looked at the Rage two blades, but haven't tried them yet. Just hate to spend $40 and find out they don't work.

Most broadheads fly reasonably close to where field points will fly.

Just make sure they are the same weight and shoot them both and see how much difference there is (if any) between the two, I doubt it will be more than 1 or 2 inches at 40yds, especially on a fast bow.

I know my broadheads and fieldpoints shoot very close so I shoot fieldpoints most all the time up until just a couple weeks before opening day of bow season and then I start shooting broadheads most all the time through hunting season.

In heavy winds is where you may see some real difference between a fixed broadhead and a field point as crosswind deflection will likely be greater on the broadhead.

Shoot the broadheads you plan on hunting with. You have to make sure of where they are hitting. If they hit very close to where your field points do, then just shoot the field points. If they're is a big difference betweent eh two then you want to continue to shoot the broadheads. If you're seeing some odd flight from your broadheads then take your bow to the proshop with your broadheads and they can help you out.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, you have broadheads that are the same weight as your field tips, right? If so, then just choose a few arrows and put the broadheads on and practice with them along with your field tips. It's important to get the same shot pattern with bothbroad heads as you do with field tips -- all while making sure to shoot enough arrows to get your torso muscles ready for the season as well as making sure to have plenty of arrows and broadheads to hunt with. I always seem to damage a few arrows in the off season.

broadhead tuning

Well I really like the fixed blade 100mag slick trick, I can get them around 17.00 shipped to my door.
If your interested in a mech head lazer strike 3 blade 1 1/2inch cut 10.00 3pak.
PSE brutes mech 1 1/2 inch cut 12-15.00 I can personally speak for these an have many pictures of kills and what they look like after going through deer same head as sidewinders.

But the most important thing for broadhead flight is to have your bow properly tuned/paper tuned.Keep it simple broadhead an fieldtips same grains.

If your looking for a larger cut head steelhead 3 blade 2 inch cut. for like 20.00 bucks why spend all the bucks for rage 2 blade when a 3blad does same for half the money an a three blade to boot.
