California Black Tail WithTurkey Call

Postby buckleybacon » Sat Sep 29, 2007 11:14 pm

Hi there,

I am an avid hunter always trying new tricks and I have a question...it may sound crazy but, does anyone know about using other than deer game calls for fooling blacktails inot being less weary and scared while hunting in the woods. I am wondering about trying a hen call for turkeys on the 500 acres that I hunt and own. There are all kinds of game birds on the property..and lots of turkeys always around...I figure while still hunting why not give a shout out every once in a while with a turkey hen call too fool the monster bucks into being a little less suspicious. Could it be a good trick or has anyone used this or other similar methods, and actually had success? Give a holler. And no I am not an idiot...for the last three years I have got two bucks a year with a 17.5 inch high by 21.5 inch wide 3 by 3 buck this year. Just trying new things...let me know if this makes sense to anyone. [/img]

It seems like it would be worth a try if you were in a very dry area where you were sure you could not move around undetected. From what I have observed it seems that deer will normally get nervous around any noise, even when they know for sure where it is coming from. I have seen active squirrels cause deer to move away. You should try it out in an area where someone can glass your stalk from a distance and observe the deers reaction.
After saying all that I will ad that I hunt a lot of burn areas and have seen deer get accustom to woodcuters and ignore everything including a chainsaw. I have never seen a mature buck ignore such noise tho.
