Do you plan on eating them or just eradicating them?

I would think that a well placed turkey load would take them down, or some type of buck shot...I really cant say as I have never hunted hogs with shotgun.

well sabot slugs are for rifled barrels, and the ones for your gun will be a hell of a lot cheaper

Rifled slugs are for smooth bores and are made to spin the slug like rifling does a bullet...... A saboted slug needs rifling to get it spinning to stabilize it. As for accuracy, 1.5-2" at 150yds is avg from what I have seen. There are rifled chokes for smooth bore shotguns. Just so you know, rifled slugs and rifled chokes, dont work to well together.

As for using your shotgun for hogs, I would do as suggested above and use slugs. Buckshot would do good, but a slug will do better.

I shot rifled slugs out of a smooth bore with a modified choke for quite a few years before I bought a rifled barrel. Keep your shots under 100 yards and youll be fine. Make sure to do a bunch of target shooting so you know how it "patterns" so to speak.

BTW, find the best shooting brand and type slug and stick with it, they will all shoot a little differently.

I agree as posted above by another member; a slug to the head should be just fine.

when using buck shot use your mod. choke a full choke and buck shot dont mix to good. From my hog hunting experiances'which or limited' I go with slugs. My last hog hunt the hog took 5- 00buck loads to stop it.Slugs or the way to go.first 2 shots were neck and side of head at 17yds next 3 were head on as it was charging last shot was at 5yds.Hogs can be tough critters so give your self an edge use slugs. Just my .02 worth

using a full choke with 00 buck screws up your pattern and slows down the pellets less accurate and less penetration use atleast a modified choke or shoot slug...a slug to the head will stop just about anything in its tracks
