Cold Creek, Nevada hunting report

Postby tsugem64 » Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:08 am

Had a fun day yesterday hunting Cold Creek. My friend bagged two chukars and 1 rabbit, and I got a rabbit. It was a really nice day; no wind, sunny, and snow all over the place.

Where near Cold Creek were you if you dont mind my asking?
I've hunted in and around the hills behind the prison off of cold creek road and found a few rabbit, mostly black tail jack rabbits. Are you spotting any coyotes in the area?

Hi; me and my hunting partner go through the small community that's there and basically drive straight through until we reach dirt roads. Since there's snow now, we drive as far as we can in trucks--which isn't too far nowadays, and park. We then use our ATVs and scan until we see rabbits or chukar, or their tracks and try and track them down. Hope this helps you out.

Varian530; I go past the prisons on Cold Creek road all the way to a small residential community and follow the road all the way through it. It's not a big community so it's not very far. You'll end up on the other side of the community and you can take several unpaved roads through some good small game hunting areas. I've also been told that there's a small herd of deer there but I haven't seen any myself. As far as coyotes, I've seen their tracks and evidence of them digging around bushes, probably for food, but haven't layed eyes on any yet.

Thank you for the added info. My son and I have always gone into the areas between the town and the prison. I'm looking forward to scouting the area past Cold Creek. I'll keep you posted on Rabit sightings.

Cold Creek

I went out past the Cold Creek residential community again last Sunday because it was the last day to hunt chukar but we didn't see any. We did get one bunny though. So during the Superbowl our families cooked the about 4 chukar and 6 rabbits we had accumulated since the last two months. Yummy! It was good eatin'. Well rabbit season ends Feb 28 so don't let a weekend pass by without trying to get some. Good luck!

Where else for rabbit?

Postby tsugem64 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:06 pm

Hi Variant530;

where else have you bagged rabbits or birds? I shot one bunny out by Cottonwood Valley and saw a covey of quail there before. The road to the town of Nelson had jackrabbits and the area around Searchlight had lots of quail.

I'm interested in exploring other "hotspots" if you know of any. Thank you.
