Cold Weather Hunting

I live in central Wisconsin, tomorrow the windchill in the morning is supposed to drop the temp to -15ish... now this is my first time hunting and we missed a nice buck opening day... so im not giving up... just wondering if its worth the cold to go out and deal with the frost bite tomorrow morning... do the deer get up and move more on the cold wind chill days?

You bet they do....they have to eat to stay warm..... they may move later in the morning and feed earlier in the evening too. Think food and food plots....... Don't shoot the first buck that hits the food, more time than not, does and smaller bucks will come out first.....Big boy will watch form the edge and step out later! Good Luck and try to stay warm, warm means you are not moving around as much.... deer are always looking for movement!

Yesterday it was 26 below with 15" of snow on the ground. Because it was cold I chose "still" hunting as my option for hunting my deer. Slowly walking through deer habitat kept me warm, as I was on the move. The snow allowed me to walk to within 25yrds. of an 8 point. He had his head in the snow which allowed me to sneak up on him. I chose not to harvest him. When I still hunt deer I wear warm but quiet jackets which allow me to travel through alders and brush making very little noise. It seems that 10:00 to 2:00 is the most successfull for me. I was freezing by the time I arrived back at my snow machine. Good luck!!
