Colorado Elk Tag

Postby NYBuckhunter » Mon Sep 15, 2008 6:25 pm

I found out recently that my girlfriend's uncle owns a ton of land out in Colorado and hunts it for Elk every year. It looks like we are going to make the trip out there next year and I will be able to hunt his land. Does anyone have information regarding what the process is to draw a tag for a non-resident? Im going to be checking into it myself, but thought some of you may know the process as well.

Draw deadline is very early, like January, so get the info ASAP dont dally around getting it in either. A buddy of mine sent his $$$ in, the check was cashed and got the "we never received your application" line. You get draw points if you are not drawn for a tag.

Check out the Colorado DWR site, it will have all the info you need. In short most all units in CO are via a point system, some units require 0 points and some units you will never draw in a life as a non-res. Permits that don't go in the draw will often sale over the counter or they will offer as a general tag. Your family may also have landowner permits.

Not sure of the rules on this site, but there are sites that will give you the draw odds and points very fast for 0 cost.
