Coyote rifles

Postby RemingtonMan » Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:53 am

I am looking at getting a stevens varmint rifle in 22-250 or 243 caliber and cant quite decide which one to get. Would I be better to get the the 243 or 22-250 for coyoye hunting? The ammo is a little more expensive for the 243 but it has a little more knockdown at longer ranges. Which one would be better to get?

I would prefer th 250.its faster and flater even better i like the 220 swift. They are great varmint guns but the 243 would be a little more versatile as its a great deer round as well.It would definatley get the job done on the yotes but if you just want a varmint gun i would lean towards one of the top two.

Personal opinion 22-250 big bore with a tactical scope (oh dam that will be about $1200 bucks for the scope) that way you can shoot woodchucks from long range as well...Fun

Heck i got quite a few 400 yd woodchucks with the 204. only thing is that at that far i have to stop taking head shots.

Good choice. My advice now is dont be afraid to spend a little extra on the scope. If you can of course.

IMO, I would try to spend as much on the scope as you did the rifle. You may not be able to afford it now, but you will benefit from a quality scope at long ranges and low light conditions.

Its makin real good! Shot a squirrel from about 50yds and totally blew it apart. The rifle shoots very good too. I am going to ask my neighbor down the road if I can go shoot some yotes on his 100 acre lot, just had one run right in front of me the other day when I was driving down the road! Cant wait to blow one away! :)
