Crossbow hunting with more penetration.

Postby ninepointkiller » Fri Dec 03, 2010 3:48 pm

What are some sugestions on getting more penetration from my crossbow? I've used several fixed blade broadheads and have hit 5 good bucks this year. I've been able to recover only one because the blood trail ends. 2 deer I even knocked completely off their feet, and they still got up and ran away. I know the arrow was not going all the way through cause I could see it sticking out both times. All the deer were hit in the vitals, but none went all the way through. Is there a better broadhead arrowshaft combination?

What crossbow are you shooting? What size arrow? How heavy of broadhead?

This really doesn't make much sense. Even a slow compound bow shooting around 250 FPS will blow through a deer on a well placed shot. Depite passing through a deer or not, a good placed arrow will still result in a dead deer.

That's all I can think as well (hitting bone). That set up you have should be shooting plenty fast for a pass through IF the shot is well placed. Be sure your broadheads are razor sharp. Use different heads to practice with and use brand new ones to hunt with.
