cutting trees

Got questions about what to grow and when to grow it? This is the place to ask.

cutting trees

Just throwing this out there. I have one of my stands up on a slope that funnels between 2 revines. Deer travel that slope. My thought was, it used to be an old tobacco field but now its grown over with poplars, sapplings and dead fall, which makes it hard to see deer when the sun is reflecting. If I got busy and cut down all the sapplins and small junk wouldnt the vegetation be mor plentiful as the new growth evolves from the cut trees? kind of a food plot but not.

I would suggest clearing a path down the middle leading to your stand. The deer will take the "path of least resistance" and come straight to you. You can clear out the saplings and such so that undergrowth can start, but it seems the deer are liking the cover provided. I would suggest waiting until deer season is over so that you dont ruin your hunting. The deer will probably continue to use it, but it will have them messed up for a little bit and may slow down your deer sightings.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......
