Dead Deer Around the stand

Postby Aviddeerhunter » Mon Dec 06, 2004 11:54 am

While hunting a couple of weeks ago i notice a deer lying down about 70 yrds from my stand i was hunting i went to see it and it was a basket racked 8.... Very nice deer that i have never seen before he didnt have any gun shots or arrow or anything in him... All there was was blood from his groind.. I was wandering what to do with him will that deer being dead right there effect other deer comin to my stand or what. I really have no where to put him besides in a creek anyone have any suggestions?

Yes I would think it would effect deer coming to your stand...The predators will be coming in and will keep the deer at bay...Also I would not put him in the creek...it will contaminate the creek. I would drag him a fair distance upwind of the prevailing winds for that area. It shouldn't take the predators long to take care of him. What a strange thing to have happen :?

wow reckon he got hit by a car ? that's odd when you say groin do you mean from an internal source if so you might want to get a biologist to look at it to make sure it's not some type of sickness :(

Well we have never had it happen before.. i mean we have killed deer there many of times and nothing is wrong with them... I just have a feeling that he was an old deer and had died there from age or natural causes.. And i believe that the coyotes got to him but just didnt finish him off.......About the draging off idea if i drag him that much farther away then i am putting him on someone eles property and i would really hate to do that to someone eles. I was thinking about just getting the quad and draging him to a seperate part off woods about 300 acres away but then that will leave me with alot of disruption in the woods that i really dont want......

dead deer

Postby Buckstopper21 » Wed Dec 08, 2004 8:29 pm

My dad and I have been hunting from the same ground blind position for two years and have shot two deer from the same blind in the same day and left the gut piles right there. The one deer droped withing 50 yards of where I shot my deer later that day, so it surely didn't mind getting too close to that gut pile. I don't think it would be such a problem as long as it doesn't stink bad and a little bit out of sight.

Yeah that sounds logical i have also done the same thing but the deer really dont know what that is if you know what i mean and plus the pile is probibly gone so fast by all of the the deer never knew it was there...

Postby killahog » Sun Dec 12, 2004 6:38 pm

I Have found 2 Dead Deer Near 2 of my Hunting stands, I Found one With The head cut off the other one there was no sign Of Injury, Neither Time Did the dead Deer cause The Other Deer to shy away from that Location, I would Not worry about it.

Postby smacarac » Mon Dec 13, 2004 4:30 pm

 now i have found thee opposite shot a doe and we could not find her till the next morning and my partner was hunting one of the hot trails up from the swamp and did not see any thing next morning you guessed it she was across the swamp trail. So some times i think it effects the deer . just my 2 cents :)

I had an 8 point buck die on my land and it has been eaten on by coyotes. That being said I still have seen deer out there even with the dead one. If the deer are not pressured they will stay in the area even with a dead one laying around
