Decoys work all year long. For a buck hunt we like the decoy to be looking away from us and either the butt straight at us or off at an angle a little. If you can guide a buck into one side or the other with cover or open field etc then set up on that side to up your odds at getting a clean broadside shot. Doe decoys bring in does for us this time of year and buck decoys bring in bucks. Urine is our preferred "lure" for this setup right now. Come late pre rut then Kaatz Brothers "One Night Stand" in a reusable canister etc placed under the decoy. Use gloves and scent free procedures and sometimes the bucks will destroy your decoy. Dont leave them out overnight/when you arent hunting. This is a good time of year for calling and decoying together and dont be surprised if a yote shows.
