Deer Attractant VS The Law

Postby dcamacho13 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:12 pm

Hey everyone, I have a question that hopefully could be answered. I hunt in Illinois where baiting is illegal. Now I have seen this deer attractant product called C'Mere Deer that is in a liquid spray form. Is this still considered baiting even though the deer do not necessarily eat the liquid? I have tried to run this past DNR and four different representatives could not give me a straight answer. I don't want to do anything that will get me in trouble and may put my hunting privileges at risk. If this is in fact illegal, what are some other strategies that people use to bring deer in without breaking the law? Any information is appreciated.

Hunting in Illinois you will be fine with no bait there is plenty of fields and food in the timber for the deer, just find you a good trail and hunt it.

C'Mere Deer (particularly the liquid form) is an attractant....not a type of bait. It's similar to placing doe urine out to attract a buck and I definitely wouldn't consider doe urine bait. Just for safe measure I would stick to the liquid form, and if 4 separate people from the state told you they didn't know, I think that about sums up the fact that the rule regarding things such as C'Mere Deer is not even on the books so you should be good to go. P.S. C'Mere Deer is good stuff....we use it on our property in Delaware and it works like a charm!
Although this saying might be a little cliche, it's so true... hunting is not just a passion, it's an obsession.....it's part of what defines my life.....and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Personally, I thnk if they don't eat it, it's not bait. That said, what I think does not matter one iota when the Conservation Office is standing there with his ticket book in his hand. I'd say if you are not sure, don't use it. I agree with the cap that said you should be fine without it. Alot of hunters fill thier tags every year without bait. As far as alternative go, try tending grunts during the rut or rattleing.
