Deer Calls

Postby question mark » Wed Dec 10, 2008 7:58 pm

Hello,
:?: My father in law has asked for a deer call for christmas and I'm wondering if you folks have any suggestions about what would be a good brand or style for hunting mule deer and black-tails in the north and south of california. I hunted mulies in Utah as a teen but don't remember anyone ever using a call. Thanks for any advice you can give. :?:

Mulies don't respond to calling like whitetail deer do.

We have both Whitetail and Mule deer here in Kansas and people don't use calls for Mulies here either and thats because they don't respond to calls well if at all, I don't believe anyone makes calls for them either or not that i'm aware of.

But Blacktail deer I don't know, we don't have them here and I don't know if they respond to calls like a whitetail or not so maybe someone has some experience with them.

Good luck bud!

We use a fawn in distess call to bring in muley does during the rut and quite often the bucks will follow. In our observations in our area the white tail seem to be way more cautious were the dominent muley doe usually comes in quite readilty. I've got some footage I'll try and find showing the mulies coming in on the run.
