Deer Hunting North Eastern WA

Postby rawa » Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:47 pm

I am new to the state and have been deer hunting in MN for 8 years. I would love to start hunting in WA but I do not know anyone who owns land or hunt. Could some guide me in the direction of how to get started?

Are you looking for Whitetail or Mule deer? I used to hunt up in Republic, but the herds are pretty much gone with the influx of cougars. The Colville area has some pretty good hunting for whitetail. If you want good mule deer hunting, try the Breaks near Pullman. There is alot of private land, but most allow you to hunt if you ask. Get a BLM map of the area for public grounds. Ritzville also holds good mule deer hunting although there is alot of hunters around on opening day.

For the most part, you are in a good area. Try to find a deserted road a get way back in. The harder the country is to access, the better the hunting.

Good Luck!

You should really read and understand the game pamplet to know what areas to apply for a permit hunt most are limited quota hunts. Alot of times you can figure out the most popular places are by the # of people putting in for them.

I sugest that you try klickitat county. Although it isn't anything like most of minnesota, it is excellent for blacktail hunting and even a few mule deer. There is a lot of private land up there but you can ussually get permission from the landowners to hunt there. I never been hunting up near spokane so I dont know what to tell you. sorry if this wasn't any help.

collvile is a really good place to start. kettle falls is also good and they've got mule deer as well. and don't forget mout spokane. one of the biggest whitetails i ever saw lives in the graveyard in spokane. saw it at night going to my inlaws from the spokane airport. the back tines where at least 14 inches long and had great mass. it was a 5x5 not including the 3 or 4 inch eye guards. lots of good hunting around spokane for whittails and mule deer. good luck let us know how you do
