Went saturday and killed a cull 5 pointer, boy was he ugly. Had a spike and 8 does around me throughout the morning. My buddy killed a nice 8 pointer. The rut is definetly on in my neck of the woods. Rubs and scrapes everywhere. 3 of us hunted that day, and i think we counted close to 30 diferent deer on a 250 acre farm. With the air getting colder they will move more and more. Hope your luck improves.

Caught one on the move this evening( Monday) I'll call him one heck of a fork horn. His main beans are 20 1/4" long,15" wide. He had two crab claws measuring 5 " each. It was a real tall rack as well. Not Mr. Big but figured with waerfowl season just around the corner, better strike while the iron was hot! I do think he was just starting to rut.....

Here are a couple pics of the ones we got last Saturday. Mine wasnt Mr Big either but with a rack like that he had to go. Unfortunately for me the trophy hunting is over. This saturday starts the "thinning of the herd" for us. I have our farm and the surrounding 3 farms all working together to thin out some of the deer. The average wieght has dropped and the nicer racks are getting to be harder to find. We all took 25-30 off each farm last year and this year it doesnt even look like they were touched!

You are right about thinning the herd. We have so many deer here in Va. that we all need to take several each year. :D

Duck hunted the entire holiday weekend but the other boys got some deer. 4 and a 6 killed and 2 more does. Saw the ever illusive 12 pointer at noon run across the field while i cleaned ducks and helped with a few deer. I might have him patterned now though. Seems to be on a pretty consistant 3 day schedule to be found in the same place. Might have to give the ducks a break now..... :D

seems as if hunting pressure (dogs/man drives, & sounds of shots) surrounding our property has slowed down deer movement a lot. I Personally have not seen any deer in the last week or so but other guys on the land have seen some does but no bucks. I set my trail cam out on top of a fresh scrape and only got pics of a spike & some does working the scrape all at non shooting hours (dark). I do believe they are bedding most of the day and moving/eating at night...they now know "whats up"! So i'm going to push a lil closer to the bedding areas in hopes to catch one going in/out. Good luck to all this week!

honestly from what ive seen where iv been going, usually the deer are all over the place, but with this wet summer we had, theres plenty of food on the mountains and away from the fields that all i saw was 2 does feeding on a logging trail on the mountain i had to hike to the top to see. hopefully they will move to the fields and orchards soon to get a good meal instead of staying in the mountains...

This is very true. But the freezer is full already with several deer, ive given away a couple to families in need, and a doe looks really funny on the wall.
