deer like all kinds of different foods, peanut butter, corn, clover, wheat, oats, you name it!

As long as it is something they can easily digest..

Peanut butter really works, just smear it onto a tree and watch the deer eat away!

good luck and god bless :D

I've never personally used it, but it does work well. One way to use it is to screw the lid onto a tree from the inside than cut the bottom of the peanut butter jar off and screw it back onto the lid. Keeps them coming for a long time.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think your a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.

They like it and it takes a couple of days to find it. I also put out sliced apples. They go fast as well.

Deer and Peant Butter

Postby Gator4ever » Tue Jan 02, 2007 8:55 am

If you decide to use Peanut Butter? I would suggest that you hang the jar on a string and keep it elevated. The ants, raccoons, and other critters will get to it before the deer do. Also give the deer some time to find it and get used to it. They will like the smell but since it is an unfamiliar smell they may take some take time to get used to.
And yes some mfgs do sell Peanut Butter flavored attractants and they maybe cheaper than buying it at the grocery store? I think that Evolved Habitats make it in Peanut Butter.
Good Luck

WOW, this is an old post, lol.

Peanut butter that is sold as an attractant at the local sporting goods stores just for deer cost 2-3 times more that the grocery store kind that you eat. Most of it consist of corn or some other food source that has had PB or PB scent put on it. If you are going to use PB, I would suggest getting the real stuff from the store. You can take and screw the lid to a tree at a height the deer can reach it, cut the bottom out of the jar and then screw it back onto the lid. Once a jar becomes empty, all you have to do is buy another, cut the bottom out, and use the lid that is already attached to the tree.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......

lock the dog in the barn or a garage or somehting when you hunt. i would think deer can't be to picky this time a year about what they eat.

Peanut butter scent travels for miles. But careful of all the other critters. They will eat if before the deer will.

I ran out of the apples I was putting out behind my camp for my trail camera and found that deer will eat donuts, biscuits, Kit-kats, and bread.

According to what I have read, deer love peanut butter, but a warning first. I bought 5 pounds of peanutter butter at SAM's and smeared it all over the ground underneath my stand. Within 30 minutes, I must have had 30 cow's licking the grass below me. I moved.
