delaware turkey season

Postby bambeklr » Mon Apr 18, 2005 11:23 pm

Well fellas I just wanna say that reality caught up me this morning. I MISSED. I missed my first turkey of the year. AT 35yds with a 10 gauge. I am just sick. Well doc happy birthday at least you got somthin accomplished. I got a holly tree. I took it with me to put in the shop. That was the first turkey I have ever missed. I had 2 toms with beards easily over 10 inches all in bow range and I screwed it up. I swear that I am gonna kill that bird if it kills me this week!!!

Way to go bambeklr, I was hoping this wasn't going to be an ongoing saga. from the way you described you first morning out this was destined to be a phantom gobbler. But sounds like you made short work of that toms luck streak. Only one bird came out of our camp my baby brother came draggin a nice 24#er with 1 1/8" spurs and 11 1/2" beard after day one all the toms have kinda shut up , and now we're working our way through a cold snap that { ole Quigley } sent over this way, gonna have high in the low 60's the next 4 or 5 days so hopefully that'll slow em down until I get another day off.

delaware turkey season

Yea I was on them birds last night watching where they were roosting. I found a very large shed antler also. I have been on a streek this week. I found two matching sets the other day, and a dead 6 point. Good luck with those toms on your days off. My friend also killed a nice tom this morning. The other guy that was hunting with me almost got one at the same time as me. We almost got a double. We split up to fast when the first bird gobbled. They were right on top of us. They were still roosted at 8am. I guess because of the rain and bad weather.

Congrats killer, always nice to follow up a missed opportunity with a nice kill. I'll be working a nice tom I've been watching this year tomorrow morning.

I am working on the pictures fellas I dont have a scanner but Some of my friends do. I dont even know how to put them on here. Can you all give me a hint. I took my friend back to the same spot but I couldnt get the toms away from the hens. They put on a nice show. If I were doing the shooting I could have killed one. My friend was not comfortable over 45 yards and he wasnt use to my gun. I could literaly see the place I had kicked out to sit from yesterday. We are gonna getem this week.

Called in a nice one for my nephew this morning(his first). He dropped him at 25 yards. Not a monster but he did have 1 inch spurs and a 9 inch beard. My nephew's first gobbler. Picture perfect too. Took me 30 minutes to get him come into the decoy. He hung up at 50 yards but a few x rated purrs brought him right on in. Happiest I've been since I killed my first tom.

Kwack Whacker you really should be careful when you expose a youngin to spring birds, many many years ago I called up my baby brothers first bird for him when he was 10 yrs. old and now he's 38 yrs. old . To date he has probalby killed nearly 60 birds and is way ahead of me, I use the excuse of the years that I lived in delaware and their wasn't a season for part of that duration. He just nods and grins but never has a season passed that he hasn't thanked me for calling that first bird in for him. If I remember right the bird was 21#11" beard and 1 1/4 spurs I still have the news paper article of him holding his bird up for the reporter, It was the first bird checked in that spring of 1977 in our county. Ill try to find the pic and have the wifey post it for me. CONGRATS!!

Thanks all, He's already trying to talk me into taking some days off so we can go later this week. I think I have created a monster.
