X2
We have been managing our deer land for 4 years now. We still dont have our ratio where we want it, but after the rut its doe time. Since we have taken so many dies out of the farm we have noticed more bucks, better quality racks, and the average size is increasing to what it once was. A small part of the equasion for a bucks antler quality is genetics. Most of it is actually based upon food quality and the age of the mother. Cut down on the old does, and you make more food for the bucks. It is really paying off on our land. Depending on your herd size its going to take a lot more than 1-2 does per year. We take upwards of 25 off my farm and 3 times that off the surrounding leases. The area around us is not managed and trophy hunted so it is an uphill battle as they seem to fill back in as fast as we kill them. However we are seeing great results, and better action during the rut.
