Hey Josh, I am 13 years old and have lots of experience in hunting. I started hunting when i was about 8 years old and have not stopped yet. I absolutely love to hunt, I have hunted turkey,white-tailed deer, pheasant, rabbit, mourning dove, squirrel, and lots more. I shot a turkey last year with a 5 inch beard and 1.5 inch spurs, I have shot three deer all of witch were does, one with my crossbow, one with my muzzel-loader (at about 125 yards, while standing on a frozen over pond), and one with my shotgun. As you can see I am a pretty good writer when it comes to something i love to do and know a lot about. Just yesterday I was out hunting with my dad in our climbing tree stands and as we were setting up 5 does (at least that is what we think they were) came wright through our area and trotted away after they seen my dad. But that was only the start. You see, it was raining that day and it didn't stop the deer from moving. So about an hour into the hunt i seen some comotion to the right of me and a doe and her two yearlings came out of the thicket. Knowing that the yearlings probably needed their mom i let them go but it was a good experience for me.I would say i hunt about 90% of the hunting season each year and i love it. I plan on hunting my local public hunting grounds and the state park for this years hunting season. I could tell you a lot more great stories but i am getting ready to go for an afternoon hunt on the edge of a bean field, so bye.

Sincerely, Ashton

PS: I hunt in the great state of OHIO. Oh yeah and one other thing, i don't know how to post a picture.

My article is posted below. PLEASE give feedback. THANKS

A hunt I will never forget

Postby yankees33 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 2:47 pm

It was a bitter cold day in Delaware, Ohio but that didn't stop me or my dad from going on a early morning hunt in the middle of December. Me and my dad had just gotten out to the ridge we thought that we would see of a lot activity, and we did. You see, it was a perfect set-up we had a thicket to the left, a C.R.P. field in front of us, and some hardwoods to the right of us. It was a natural funnel for all of the deer in the area.

About an hour into the hunt we heard a loud commotion to the right of us, settling my 20 gauge Mossberg pump-action on a hanging vine I steadied and took aim. It just so happened to be a group of about 7-9 deer (all of which were does). They were about 100 yards out and I knew that If I did take the shot it would be a hail-mary shot. I decided not to take the shot because I was relying on my iron sights, which are not 100% accurate at 100+yards.

So we waited, and waited, until about 2 hours had gone by and then it happened. Just out of the corner of my eye I saw two deer closing in on our position. So again I took aim. But this time I was leaning on the side of a young cottonwood. At my side was my dad equipped with a 12 gauge Traditions shotgun. We were both loaded with K.O. slugs and ready to shoot. The deer were about 70 yards away when I noticed what I thought to be a mature doe with a button buck trailing behind(and I was right).

Me and my dad decided that this was it. We had the chance and we were going to take it. The two deer trotted right up next to the frozen stream that was bordering the West side of the ridge. Me and my dad queued each other. "On three" I exclaimed in the lowest tone I could say. And on that very moment after the 'three" me and my dad shot. The loud "BANG" rattled throughout the woods. Just then me and my dad looked at each other and we smiled. I did not know for sure, but I was hoping that I had hit the doe.

After about 10 minutes my dad decided to go down and see if we had hit the deer. But he didn't get very far before the button buck came crashing through the woods to the right of my dad. So out of instinct my dad pulled up and dropped the buck right in it's tracks about 25 yards away. It amazed me, I had never seen anyone in real life drop a deer so quick and humane.

So after all of the excitement wore down we went over and followed the blood trail my K.O.'s made. The blood trail was about 1.5 to 2 feet in width and thankfully it only went about 50 yards. As we walked up to my deer I was amazed. I had hit the doe right through the skin under the chest cavity. It didn't even penetrate the sternum!!! I really couldn't believe it.The doe must have had a heart attack or something because it was completely dead when we found it (20 minutes later).

Anyway, I shot my first deer and me and my dad both field dressed them. Also it was quite an experience for me, and I will never forget my first deer kill with my 20 gauge pump action Mossberg.
