Sorry I've been away,
carnivore,
I use the Treebark digital 1.3.
Here’s the scoop on these digital cameras, and I have looked around.
And if anyone has checked around they can agree with me, or disagree.
But I checked a few digitals out before I bought.
If you haven’t checked out digitals, then maybe $400+ will scare you off, but if you have checked around, to keep it under $500, you’re doing fine. So what are the features ?
You can spend $500 at Cabellas, and a few other places for a basic digital trail camera. I think that one unit was the Vigil out of Quebec. You get one mem card, and alkaline batteries. .And OK for $30 more you can get rechargeable Nimh “AA”’s and charged, and for $39 more you can get another mem card. So you up to about 6 bills. One other was the Stealth digital, cheap plastic case and one week of battery life, give me a break.
And I have read up on some other types too. Weak flash, and the one that gets me is the Cuddeback (I think), you need a laptop, or some other type of monitor to check your pictures. One other one out there on the market has about 6 seconds response time, the animal is in the next state by that time.
The features I like on the Treebark Digitals are..
Pictures viewable on the camera back.
One to 2 months battery life on the sensor.
Rechargeable battery system option
8 -10 yard flash range
2.5 second camera response time
One second response time on the 24 / 7 model
5 different delay settings
Sensitivity adjustment
Double picture mode
Walk test feature
6 month warranty
Mine is a 1.3 megapixel. Some others out there are 2, some even 3.2. I went through The Treebark website gallery, and there are a few 35 mm pictures there and all the rest are from the Treebark basic 1.3. These are great quality pictures. Easily comparable with 2.0 or even some middle of the road 3.2 megapixel camera pictures.
I downloaded one elk pic (since I sent it in anyways) and blew it up to an 8 x 10 and it’s awesome.
