Finally got out

Postby moto » Tue Nov 09, 2010 1:42 pm

So I finally got out for the first time ever deer hunting. I had read and took suggestion from other and was ready to get out there and get me a deer with my bow. Wasn't concerned whether it was a buck or a doe I was going to get one. Well it didn't happen. I hunt in the northeast of mass and I picked a crapy day to go. It was rainy, very windy, and cold probably not the best day to go. I wasn't able to do any scouting but have been bird hunting in the area so I have seen deer prints. So I set out to an area that there is no bird hunting and hope for the best. Did some grunt calling, doe bleats and some rattling but nothing. Didn't even see any scrapes or rubs. The only thing was a few prints. I am guessing the crappy day had to do with some of it but then again not sure I was doing things correct. I found a nice funnel area where it looked like deer would move through so set up there a for a couple hours then moved to another spot. Even though I didn't see anything it was a good day and look forward to the next time I get to go.

Stick with it. Go on a cold cloudy day when there's little wind. The rut is right around the corner so keep at it, you will see them.
