First buck of the year!

First buck of the year!

Postby 10ptbowslayer » Thu Sep 25, 2008 7:42 pm

It was a really windy day and i figured i wouldnt see anything. Sat in the stand for 2 hours. saw two does at 7pm and about 15 minutes later this boy walked out...Not big but its my biggest with a bow! It was a 30 yard shot through two trees and i actually got really lucky because it hit him almost on the base of his neck. Idk if it hit a juggular vein or what?...but i have shot this buck, a spike (first buck ever) and a little 6 pointer all with a bow in two years of bowhunting. My biggest buck to date would be a 10point with 19inch spread...

anyone know how old he is?? i was thinking 2.5 years old

and this is the monster i shot last year...with a .30-06

Technically speaking, it doesnt matter how old he is. He isnt going to get older, but I do believe that he is 3.5. You would have to had gotten his jaw checked to get an exact age.

The other deer is a nice one.

I would have to say the first is a 3.5 as well. Those are both great bucks. Congrats.

Hard to judge age with just a dead head shot. But if I had to guess, depending on where you're located I'd say 2.5 to 3.5.

Also the reason your pictures aren't coming in is you have the "Disable BBCode in this post" checked during posting. You probably set it in your profile. To fix it for all future post click on "Profile" above and scroll down to "Always allow BBCode:" and set it to yes. To fix it in this post, click edit beside the post, scroll down to "Disable BBCode in this post" and uncheck.

I split the discussion we were having about aging deer and moved it to the Whitetail Deer Hunting forum.
