ok this is some pics of my two small food plots. the pine tree is the tree i climb on and i have a plot in front of it and one behind me with a salt block half stuck in the ground. my problems are for one on my food plot like the grass stuff that is coming up is like mowed down. im not sure if the deer are tearing it up or its gretting trampled on or its not getting enough water cuz it hasnt been raining and its wilting. its hard to tell. any explainations? another question is for my salt block i have a game cam looking over it and i also put a small log with a whole jar of penut butter on it right beside my slat block and i am not getting any pictures at all. i do not understand why i ant getn any pics of deer atleast walking by and eatn some food plot but jeez there not even touchn the salt block or penut butter. i just put the penut butter our sunday and i checked it today. iv never used penut butter b4 so maybe they just have to get use to it or somthen iduno.... i was also thinken like sinse its still hot and partly summer maybe the deer just arent that hungry sinse it is hot and theres so much green stuff to browse on and not to mention acorns are starten to fall so maybe thats it who knows.. any ideas on why this is happning or suggestions on what i should do please tell.

Looks like ur plot is pretty dry.....we tried to plant a number of plots....none took...we realized that we just might be using the wrong seed for the soil....people up here are talking about white clover...seems to grow well and anywhere.....maybe check with ur local garden center about what and where you are growing,,,,,as far as the salt block goes.....I have 2 out....they are killing it......tried one of the mineral blocks last season and it didn't do jack.....WOW is it October??? Happy hunting...bow season opened today!
I live in the Whitetail capital of the world. I have stands and am VERY sucessful in hunting deer/turkey/waterfowl...am looking to book people in the hunt of their lives

The soil of your foodplot looks sandy. Make sure you're planting it in good nutricious soil otherwise you'll have difficulties with your plot growing. But anyway, good luck!

thx. but like does it matter even though the stuff i got is the throw and gorw stuff. it basicly says just rake a bear area and throw it out with some fertilizer and thats what i did. i even diskes up the dirt the best i could with rakes and stuff and still got a urinate poor plot lol but my conditons arent that good anyways so thats proly my problem. but this is the first food plot iv ever done. corn and rice bran is so high now so i thought id try food plots to save money. im even picking uo buckets of acorns and persimons to dump in piles lol and buying a bag or 2 here and there of corn. every weekend. lol without corn i dont know wat id do. its my confidence booster. ahhahaha

i wounder if its too late to throw somethn else like rye grass seed to grow for winter so it will be the only thing green in winter and they would proly kill the mess out of it. iv never tryied it but iv seen it in stores ans its crazy high! its 30$ for a 50 pound bag i dont even need that much.

You could have fertilized to much and burned it up or your ph is all wrong. It also could be that it is to dry for it to grow. There are several things that could be wrong. I would either dig several sample out of each "plot" and have the soil sampled. They will tell you how much fertilizer, what kind of fertilizer and how much lime to put down. If you dont want to get a soil sample, add 300 lbs of 13-13-13 fertilizer per acre, 2,000 lbs of Lime per acre.

You do not look like you have an acre, so you will need to figure out how big the plot actually is. A simple thing to do would be to measure length and width and go down to your local feed and seed shop(Co-Op here in TN) and let them know. They should be glad to help you out. It also helps if you follow the seed instructions to a T, do not skip anything if you dont have to. I would suggest winter wheat or buck forage oats over rye grass, the deer will like it better.
