found deer (Jan) hit during archery. question about hit

Just found a deer (Jan 5) that I hit during archery season. I was following some fox trails that led me to the deer, covered in snow.
Shot was broadside at 15 yds. My stand is 18 feet up. Shot seemed a little low and behind shoulder. After looking where I hit it, I found lots of white hair, no blood on ground and some fat and bright red blood on the arrow. The arrow did not have a foul odor. The deer kicked up pretty good when I hit it. I didn't try to recover it until 15 hrs later. He ran back where he came from ,into pines and didn't look hurt. 2 guys and I looked and we couldn't find a speck of blood or any sign. He was about 100 yds from my stand. He was in some pretty thick stuff, just yards from where we walked. I'm assuming with no blood on the ground and lots of hair it was low, but how did this thing die? Any ideas?

Probably internal bleeding or blunt trauma to the heart.
